Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia has launched direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) in Ahmedabad, India. The service commenced on May 2, 2024.

According to AirAsia, the inaugural flight had a 100% load factor and was given a warm welcome by the Deputy Director South Asia Unit of Tourism Malaysia.

The flight was operated by AirAsia’s A320neo aircraft, registered 9M-AGG.

“This marks a significant step in our ever evolving journey to cement our foothold in India, one of our biggest and fastest growing markets,” AirAsia Group Chief Commercial Officer Paul Carroll said in a statement.

“We also hope that this connectivity will allow more travelers from India to explore the region beyond Malaysia thanks to our seamless Fly-Through options. We look forward to kickstarting more routes, and creating more memorable travel experiences for our trusted guests,” Carroll added.

With the latest addition of four times weekly flights to Ahmedabad, AirAsia’s direct international routes from Malaysia to India now totals to 15.

Ahmedabad is one of the largest cities in India and the former capital of Gujarat. The city is known for its cotton textiles, mosques, and diamond cutting.
