Holiday travelers passing through Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) are in for a treat after the airport unveiled its new $2.7B terminal on November 15, 2022.

Construction of the new Terminal A began in 2018 in order to replace an outdated 50-year old terminal.

The one-million-square-foot terminal, which is about 20% bigger than the old one, now has four lanes of drop-offs and pick-ups at curbs. Terminal A also features touchless security and boarding, as well as the most-advanced TSA scanners in any US airport.

Terminal A also showcases the work of 29 local artists. Those passing through the terminal are not only given visual reminders of Jersey, food served in the terminal is sourced from businesses all over north Jersey.

“So, this what $2.7 billion dollars will get you,” Kevin O’Toole, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey’s board chairman, said in his opening remarks caught by the media.

“It’s the largest investment the Port Authority ever made in New Jersey in the agency’s history. And there’s more to come. Terminal B is just around the corner,” O’Toole added.

The new terminal is expected to be fully operational on or before December 8, 2022.
